The Modular Building Institute Celebrates 40 Years at Record-Breaking 2023 World of Modular Conference and Tradeshow
Over 1,500 attendees gathered for the modular construction industry’s biggest event of the year—the Modular Building Institute’s (MBI’s) 2023 World of Modular conference and tradeshow. Featuring speakers and presenters from across the globe, World of Modular also served as a celebration of MBI’s forty years of industry service.
After 4 days of unparalleled industry education and networking, Modular Building Institute’s 2023 World of Modular conference and tradeshow concluded in Las Vegas on April 1, 2023. Held at the Bellagio Resort & Hotel, the conference welcomed over 1,500 industry professionals, government officials, students, and academics from around the world.
The conference ended in grand fashion with the presentation of MBI’s 2023 Awards of Distinction. The Awards, which celebrate outstanding achievements in modular building and design, recognized dozens of diverse projects from North America, South America, Australia, and Europe. In addition, MBI inducted three individuals into its modular industry Hall of Fame: Robert and Joan McGrath, founders of McGrath Rentcorp; and Roland Brown, vice president of design and development of Ramtech Building Systems, Inc.
“This year’s World of Modular was a success in every way possible,” said MBI’s executive director Tom Hardiman, CAE. “We had a record crowd and more first-time attendees than ever before. Thanks to MBI’s Educational Foundation, there were high school and college students from around the country learning about the potential of modular construction. And our exhibit hall and networking functions were the biggest we’ve had. The momentum for the industry coming out of this event is just incredible.”
Founded in 1983, the Modular Building Institute has long been the world’s largest trade association for the commercial modular construction industry. The association’s first annual conference was held in Las Vegas in March, 1983. MBI paid tribute to its first 40 years at the 2023 World of Modular with numerous history-oriented exhibits and presentations featuring past and present members.
Among the keynote speakers was the ever-popular Anirban Basu, chairman and CEO of Sage Policy Group and MBI’s chief economist. Basu, one of the most recognizable economists in and around Washington, DC, returned to World of Modular to offer an informative and entertaining forecast for the construction marketplace.
MBI will celebrate its 2024 World of Modular at the Rosen Shingle Creek in Orlando, FL, March 18-21.
