MBI Working with California Leadership to Utilize Modular to Solve Affordable Housing Crisis
MBI continues to have discussions with the Governor’s office on an initiative to use shipping containers and our industry to address affordable housing.
MBI is also in discussions with the Department of Housing and Community Development to recruit new modular manufacturing facilities to the state to build affordable housing. Both of these initiatives are moving slowly, but are still alive as part of the states long-term plans to address their housing crisis.

A Huge Win for the Modular Construction Industry in Massachusetts
In early February, 2024, the Massachusetts Board of Building Regulations and Standards (BBRS) released its proposed 10th Edition building codes. This draft included several amendments targeting modular construction that would have created an extremely difficult environment for the entire modular industry and could have eliminated the industry entirely in the state.
