September 2020 Government Affairs Update
California
MBI Government Affairs Director, Jon Hannah-Spacagna, MBI Executive Director, Tom Hardiman and MBI Government Affairs Committee Co-Chairs, Stephen Shang (Falcon Structures) and Daniel Arevalo (Mobile Modular) hosted a call with leadership from the California Department of Housing and Community Development. We discussed their willingness to accept Remote Virtual Inspections that are presented by Third Party Inspection Agencies, Affordable Housing needs and future collaboration opportunities as issues or needs arise with their department.
MBI has also connected with two lobbying firms in California to discuss possible partnerships to address the many regulatory issues and potential issues in that state. The opportunities with these firms will be presented to the Government Affairs Committee at their next meeting on October 14.
Salt Lake City
MBI Government Affairs assisted several members that were having plan approval issues in Salt Lake City.
National Governors Association
MBI coordinated a call with leadership at the National Governors Association to discuss opportunities to partner with the Department of Defense (DOD) and Veterans Affairs via their Economic Development and Commerce Committee. This is the beginning of a long range plan that includes the training and hiring of Veterans as well as addressing Affordable Housing and building needs for the DOD. We will continue to keep members informed as this progresses.
Assisting Members
MBI hosted a Zoom Meeting with the leadership team of Mobile Modular to review current Government Affairs and Strategic Alliances work and to listen to needs they are seeing in their market areas. This provided a great opportunity to connect with their team from across the country to share information and to prepare for future issues that may arise.
