2019 World of Modular Conference a Record Setting Success!

Original Comment:
On behalf of the MBI staff and Board of Directors, we want to thank all of those who participated in the 2019 World of Modular Conference this past week in Las Vegas. A record crowd of 1,004 from over 20 different countries attended the show! And what a show it was! The attendees ranged from family-owned businesses to Fortune 500 companies like Marriott and Walmart, all seeking to learn more about this process and make valuable business connections.

We highlighted 125 modular projects in our Awards of Distinction contest, with winning entries from the U.S., Canada, Argentina, Chile, Poland, Burkina Faso (West Africa), South Africa, South Korea, and Australia. This global contest provides and excellent opportunity to share best practices from around the world. A healthcare facility by Axis Construction and NRB Inc. took home the Best of Show in the Permanent Modular Construction Category, while Horizon North nabbed the Best of Show for relocatable buildings.

Topics on nearly every aspect of the modular construction industry were covered in the 40 educational breakouts including manufacturing efficiencies, sales, design, legal and regulatory risks, automation, research and innovation, and economics.

The conference was also the place to introduce two new resources for the industry. Through a collaborative effort with the International Code Council, MBI announced the publication and availability of the ICC’s Guideline for the safe use of ISO shipping containers as building modules. This breakthrough publication will provide much needed guidance to industry, owners, and code officials on how to build in this manner. The American Institute of Architects also announced its Design for Modular Construction document to help its architect members better understand our industry. This effort began with the National Institute of Building Sciences Off Site Construction Council, currently chaired by MBI’s Executive Director.

Lastly, congratulations to Chris Peterson of Satellite Shelters for winning MBI’s Outstanding Achievement Award and to Gerry Holthuas of WillScot for being inducted into MBI’s Hall of Fame. The staff is working to follow up on many fronts including soliciting attendee feedback to make next year’s conference at the Rosen Shingle Creek Resort on Orlando even better!

Thank you to all the sponsors, exhibitors, and attendees who made this a fantastic industry event!
