Tolerance Management and inspection in Modular Buildings

Original Comment:
I heard about MBI in the last AGC BIM Forum event. I'm doing a research on how tolerance issues are managed in modular construction. Is it all based on experience or is there any software tool that does the tolerance calculations (tolerance variation analysis, tolerance sensitivity analysis, etc) using a 3D CAD/BIM model?

Any input is highly appreciated.

I'm looking for general geometric tolerances (size, form, location, orientation), which could be found on walls, floor slabs, MEP, or any other object. Tolerance management in the manufacturing, automotive, and shipbuilding industries are well developed and implemented comprehensively. I'm trying to compare what's going on in the AEC industry with them and see how much of their tolerance management concepts and tools have been adopted in the AEC industry. I believe modular construction community must be using it to some extent and maybe in a different way. That's what I'm trying to figure out.

There are guidelines. What tolerances are you looking for? (ie walls, roofs, plumbing, electrical)
