Busy Summer!

Original Comment:
It’s been a very busy and productive summer for MBI and we wanted to take a few minutes to share some of the activities we are working on for the industry. Never before has there been such an interest from the traditional construction community to consider modular construction, and we need to take full advantage of this opportunity.

MBI recently developed and launched a new PR campaign: “Changing the Way the World Builds: Greener, Faster, Smarter.” The purpose of the campaign is to heighten awareness of the advantages of permanent modular construction within the AECO community. We are doing this primarily through a series of emails to owners, developers and architects that feature member projects. For your project to be considered in this campaign, you need to be a member of MBI, support the Seals program and have the building entered into MBI’s Awards of Distinction program.

Our media partner for this campaign, Building Design & Construction (BD&C), has also developed a “modular campus” on their site to further educate our audience. If you are not receiving the Greener, Faster, Smarter campaign sends, you can sign up here:

MBI’s calendar of events has more locations in more countries than ever before. Over the next seven months, we have eight events planned in four countries including stops in Seattle, WA; Irvine, CA; Philadelphia, PA; Portland, OR; Edmonton, AB; Birmingham, England; and our three day Modular Tour in Ireland.

Also, plans are underway for our World of Modular 30th anniversary celebration to be held at the Kierland Resort in Scottsdale, Arizona on March 16-19, 2013. This event promises to be the best in MBI’s history!

Through our foundations, we recently launched a new program called Partners in Education where we will match industry members with schools of architecture, engineering and construction management. Building this bridge with the next generation of AECO professionals will pay huge dividends for our industry in the coming years.

Finally, our I-Code development efforts remain in full swing. While not terribly exciting work, this effort is perhaps the most important work MBI has done for the fleet owners, lobbying for language in the base model building codes to ensure proper and fair treatment of existing units.

As you know, MBI has two distinct councils – Permanent Modular Construction (PMC) and Relocatable Buildings (RB) - to better serve the needs of the commercial modular industry. We encourage you to get involved, support these efforts and help us change the way the world builds!

The MBI staff is dedicated to our mission and ensuring your company has a memorable and valuable membership experience. Please feel free to contact us with your concerns or ideas on how we can best serve you.
