Modular Building Design
Gross Size of Project:
- Architectural Excellence
The Tambo Camp is a project expansion of an existing old camp located in Quebrada Blanca at an elevation of 4300 masl, for a workforce mining providing accommodation to 1.800 workers. Teck company is the owner of camp, and their philosophy is to improve the standard in the camp accommodations for their people and contractors. The design of the new buildings is based in a standard unit, with two bedrooms up to 3 persons of capacity with a private bathroom, complexing in a 3-storey building. Wooden structure unit; walls and diaphragms for floor and ceiling, with thermal insulation and noising reduction elements between bedrooms, in accordance with Chilean construction codes. Due to Client’s conditions, the project was built beside the old installations, and they must continue in operations, without interruptions. In addition to the 5 dormitory buildings, a new dinner room was built capable of housing all staff in only 2 shifts and also a big recreation building for passengers.
- Technical Innovation & Sustainability
BIM technologies are applied to architectural design, and it allows very easy modifications and communications with engineering and site supervision. All project schedule was improve by 30% using these design tools. All bedrooms were equipped with LED technology and appliances were used with water consumption savings. For the welfare of the users, humidification equipment was installed to increase oxygen in the environment.
- Cost Effectiveness
The construction of the project includes more than 400 modules, saving a lot of time and money in preparation of interior finishing, and bathroom and appliance already installed in factory. The transport of the modular units was a great challenge, since the work is more than 2000 kilometers from the manufacturing plant.
