Award Criteria

  1. Architectural Excellence
    The project consists of a permanent modular structure which houses the Corcoran Police Department. The building contains a lobby, community meeting space, private offices, locker rooms, armory, holding cells, a sally port, evidence storage room and various support spaces. The building exterior utilizes brick veneer with plaster accents to provide a dignified appearance. The building design utilizes modules of various lengths and alignments to create visual interest at the public entrance. The building interiors utilize materials selections that consider the durability and function required for a law enforcement facility while also providing a comfortable working environment.
  2. Technical Innovation & Sustainability
    The unique project requirements necessitated a custom developed modular solution. To achieve the space program five different module sizes were utilized. These modules were 12’ wide and ranged in length from 22’ to 48’. The structure utilized a light weight concrete floor system throughout, however, some areas required a specialized design solution. In order to accommodate vehicular loads associated with prisoner transfer the modules which contained the sally port utilized an alternative floor design to maintain the floor structure depth and ensure alignment with the adjacent modules.
  3. Cost Effectiveness
    Modular construction was utilized for this project in order to take advantage of the associated cost and schedule benefits. The space planning and equipment selections considered the modular construction methods in order to maximize the work that could be completed in the factory. The plumbing system was carefully designed to localize the piping within specific modules to facilitate the site utility connections and to reduce durations on site. The ability to construct critical and costly spaces, such as the holding cells and armory, in a factory environment resulted in substantial cost savings and schedule acceleration as compared to traditional construction methods.
