Award Criteria

  1. Architectural Excellence
    The Claremont Club & Spa at the historic Claremont Hotel in Berkeley, CA, considered a landmark and one of America’s iconic luxury hotels requested existing locker/shower rooms for its new tennis complex. Aries Building Systems, LLC was contracted to design, fabricate and install two newly manufactured 48’x40’ modular male and female locker/shower rooms, along with one 24’x52’ administrative support office. As the intended location for the modular facilities was on an elevated tennis court at the front of the hotel, the buildings were required to be aesthetically complimentary to the hotel motif, and suitable to the hotel’s demanding five-star clientele standards. The entire modular construction was completed offsite with renewable interior finishes such as ceramic floor tile, carpet, lighting, restroom facilities and showers, and electrical and plumbing fittings, allowing for minimal onsite final finish work, so as to minimize site construction timelines and exposure.
  2. Technical Innovation & Sustainability
    The modular buildings were manufactured to California’s Title 24 efficiency standards, with scaled electrical and plumbing capacity to support high volume and sustained utilization while on site. This innovative modular design of the buildings increased the flexibility of the buildings, reduced the dreaded infrastructure time and overall environmental impact. Because of the concerns to any potential damage to the historic site, the individual building sections had to be craned over 180 ft in 2 lifts on to the tennis court, then blocked and leveled upon a concrete block/wood foundation system, so as to minimize damage to the existing tennis court.
  3. Cost Effectiveness
    The entire modular project was completed in 54 days, from contract to beneficial occupancy, affording the end client the versatility and utility of a thoroughly modern modular facility for its patrons to utilize during renovations to existing facilities. Minimal site construction timing was required, which afforded the client full utilization of onsite tennis facilities, essentially until the building sections arrived to be craned. Upon completion of planned renovations, the modular buildings will be dismantled, craned off, and removed from the site. In return, the Claremont Hotel & Spa is afforded the usage of state of the art modular buildings during construction, without the expense of erecting a more permanent stick-built solution for a clearly temporary need.
