Charlottesville, VA - Every year the Modular Building Institute (MBI) sponsors its prestigious Awards of Distinction contest, presented at the MBI annual convention. As the only industry contest of its kind, MBI's Awards of Distinction reviews commercial modular building entries submitted by MBI member companies. Entries are judged in the areas of architectural excellence, technical innovation, efficiency and length of project. This year's contest featured 53 participating MBI member companies that competed in the following categories: Permanent Modular, Temporary Modular, Renovated Reuse, Marketing Pieces, Green Building Designs, and Student Green Building.
The highlight of each year's industry-wide contest is the Best in Show competition category, where awards are conferred by industry peers for what they collectively recognize as the best modular structures in the business. This year's Best in Show competition category was presented with even greater excitement as 2008 marks 25 years of service for MBI to the modular construction industry. The anniversary was celebrated by over 500 industry members at MBI's anniversary show held April 5-8 in Bonita Springs, FL. It was here that attendees voted for the Best in Show award after viewing all Awards of Distinction contest entries.
Best in Show honors were awarded for five categories:
Best of Show: Green Building Designs. Project FROG for City College of San Francisco, Child Development Center
Best of Show: Permanent. Britco Structures for Mountain View Assisted Living Best of Show: Temporary. ATCO Structures and National Modular Bank Buildings for Community First Bank
Best of Show: Renovated Reuse. Pac-Van, Inc. and Specialized Structures, Inc. for Highland Creek/Centex Homes
Best of Show: Marketing. M Space Holdings for campaign, "A Full Spectrum of Modular Building Choices"
"Every year the industry looks forward to gathering in one place to network, and voting for the Best in Show winners has become an integral part of the yearly event," said Tom Hardiman, executive director of MBI. "This year's Best in Show winners continue a legacy of demonstrating just how accomplished the non-residential, modular construction industry has become. And these winners achieved a special accolade, being voted the best in the business by their peers."
